An article and book chapter have emerged out of Kristen Alff’s current research. “Levantine Joint-Stock Companies, Trans-Mediterranean Partnerships, and Nineteenth-Century Capitalist Development,” appeared in Comparative Studies in Society and History (January 2018). This article was a Shortlist John Goody prize nominee. Alff’s chapter on the emergence of capitalism in the Levant and Egypt appears in the edited volume, Critical Political Economy of the Middle East – A Reader. Her most recent article (Nov 2023) is “Changing Capitalist Structures and Settler-Colonial Land Purchases in Northern Palestine, 1897-1922”.
